Making A Difference in Sodic Soil Remediation

The world is losing 2,000 hectares of farm soil DAILY to salt-induced degradation. Reclamation of this land is essential for world food production. The cost per acre to leach the salt from the land is reported to be from $2,000 to $90,000 dollars (restoration) per acre, depending on the type of soil and salt concentration. Restoration can take a year or more to implement with existing methods.

As you can see saline in the soil is an age old problem in need of a solution.

Universal Agriculture has a different solution that has been used in the past to remediate salt in the soil. We know that we can restore many acres of unusable land to productivity with Salt Fighter. Please contact us to show you how we can help you to manage your soil salinity.

In the United States, California’s San Joaquin Valley faces irrigation problems that are similar to those faced by Mashkan-shapir. The irrigated soil is becoming increasingly salty, as is the water table. Without irrigation, abundant crop yields would have been impossible in this arid area. With irrigation, the land will very likely become impossible to farm.

Modern methods don’t seem to be helping the San Joaquin Valley avoid this fate. Farmers have tried to cleanse the salts from the soil by flushing it with water and draining it into the sea. They have tried pouring the salty runoff from irrigation down drains dug deep into the ground. So far, these solutions have not worked, and the fields closest to the water table are becoming poisoned by salts. Right now, it looks as if the San Joaquin Valley is headed for the same fate as Mashkan-shapir. *

Salt Fighter

Saline Soil Remediation

Salt Fighter works on salt in two ways. One, it dislodges the salt from the soil, second, it binds the salt. Once bound the salt leaches down into the soil; however, it cannot return because it is bound by theSalt Fighter.

Salt Fighter is the keystone to sodic soil remediation.  Salt Fighter was developed to remediate agricultural land in the Middle East where land had become unusable due to salt buildup over many years of irrigation. Salt Fighter was researched and developed for over ten years in laboratories in Europe and Asia. It has been used extensively in Middle East and North Africa Counties and is now available in the US for the first time.

Salt Fighter replaces gypsum treatment and is a fraction of the price. Gypsum treatment is expensive and in most cases, has to be professionally applied. Price of gypsum application ranges from 200 to 500 dollars an acre and must be applied 1-5 times a year. Gypsum has one mechanism of action. Ca++ ions replace the salt which is then leached into the ground water by additional irrigation water. This salt can return to the surface over time. Salt Fighter treated soil, as stated above keeps the salt bound and will not return. Only new salt from irrigation water needs to be treated as needed.
